Codecademy offers a variety of different online and self-paced coding courses. These courses can help an individual level-up in their career, build on a side project, or easily learn about programming. Some of the courses are free, others need to be paid for. During my WRT 304-O course, I have completed 15 lessons in the Learn HTML and the Learn CSS courses. In addition to this, I have completed all of the Make a Website course.
What I’ve Learned from the Courses
From HTML, I learned…
What I have learned from the HTML Interactive Lessons, I have learned that HTML is the core foundation of all web-based pages. Without there being HTML, there wouldn’t be any organization to text or the ability to add images or videos to a webpage. I also learned how to use common HTML tags that help structure HTML pages, as well as the skeleton of all websites. HTML also taught me how to create HTML tables to present any data in tabular form appropriately and efficiently.
From CSS, I learned…
CSS taught me that without CSS, each webpage would be dry in detail and display plain text and images that flowed down a web page. CSS allows an individual to add color and background images to create a layout for your web page; the web page can be your own creative work of art. CSS also allowed me to learn aspects of styling a web page, such as setting up correct file structures, editing text and colors, and creating an attractive layout for a webpage. CSS skills will allow me to customize the appearance of my web pages to suit the design, style, and value of the page itself.
From Make a Website, I learned…
How to Make a Website with Namecheap taught me that websites are a combination of HTML and CSS. These two together allow an individual to have the skills needed to bring a website to life. I learned how to build four simple websites using the fundamentals of web developments, which included HTML5, CSS3, and Bootstrap. At the end of the module, I was able to understand the structure of a basic website and modify it, and also how to alter the way a webpage appears visually and designed in its layout.
